It's expected nowadays that good programs be open-source. So we are. It's also a really nice bonus if those programs are cross-platform. We have that covered too, using both the console and Electron for user interface and Node for a backend. Out of good frameworks and libraries people expect an easy API and good functionality. We have the potential for that as well.
Indigo provides the groundwork for tools to be built on top of each other in a modular fashion. If you're a developer, that means you can use what already exists to build your own tools that do what you want to a ROM. If you're just a hacker, over time you can expect a healthy progression of tools made by devs for you to use.
No longer will programmers be left to their own devices to code what hackers need, reinventing who knows how much of the wheel a thousand times over. What is created is created once and for all and improved upon from there, for everyone. This opens up potential for great things, as you can see! If everyone chips in a little bit, a lot is accomplished. Everything is modular, everything is extensible.
We want to ask of the community: Those of you who know JavaScript, please do consider contributing to our endeavour. Have some work to show for a new project? We can give you membership so you can publish it in the organization.
We'd also like to ask ROM hackers who aren't apt to program to be patient! Once this gets going it will truly revolutionize the face of ROM hacking as we know it, and it won't take ages to change either. Hold on to your hats as programs like XSE, G3T, and Advance Map fall to the wayside... we promise we won't change too much though. You can expect a much better map editor, standard PokéScript, and graphical editors for what you need to do. Wish us luck!
